Morinello Opposes Plan to Subsidize Political Campaigns with State Funds

A statement from Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello (R,C,I,Ref-Niagara Falls) in response to an Albany public hearing on the public financing of campaigns.

“In the past 10 years, over 1 million people have left New York state due to high taxes, and now the governor and other elected officials are promoting a plan to subsidize political campaigns with your tax dollars,” said Morinello. “As New Yorkers, we should have the choice and the right to use our hard-earned money to support candidates we believe in, but this plan would eliminate that choice and force us to help with opposing views. I’m hopeful testimony from today’s public hearing will send a message to the governor and supporters of this brash measure that New Yorkers aren’t willing to give away their right to support candidates of their choosing.”
