Morinello: Lift State of Emergency Declaration

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello (R,C,I-Niagara Falls) joined his colleagues in the Assembly Minority as well as Senate Republicans for a joint press conference calling for the termination of the state disaster emergency declared by Executive Order 202.

“If we are truly on the path to normalcy we must lift this state of emergency declaration and facilitate the reopening of New York in conjunction with the current data and transmission rates,” said Morinello. “This declaration is not reflective of the current situation within our state, and as positivity rates and hospitalizations continue to drop statewide, we should be doing everything in our power to progress toward normalcy.”

As of June 2, New York state’s seven-day average positivity rate was the lowest in the nation at 0.64 percent, and hospitalizations dropped to under 1,000 for the first time since October 2020. The lawmakers plan to introduce a concurrent resolution of the Senate and the Assembly declaring that the state disaster emergency be terminated.
