Miller: Cuomo’s 26 Percent Middle-Class Tax Hike Is Absurd
A statement from Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I-New Hartford)
“Today the governor threatened hardworking New York State families with a 26 percent middle-class tax increase. That is his response to federal legislation that would dramatically decrease our property tax burden by requiring the state, rather than the counties, to fully pay for Medicaid. Gov. Cuomo’s claim that there is no money in his $152 billion state budget is absurd. His ‘solution’ to take the money from hardworking families in the form of a 26 percent income tax increase on the middle class is equally outrageous and cannot be allowed. Just when our families have a glimmer of hope for getting the tax relief they have deserved for years, the governor tries to pick their pockets. He would do well to take the money from his $4 billion discretionary spending fund or from Hollywood film-making companies to which he provides billions in tax credits.”
