Assemblyman Manktelow Supports Reconsideration of Plan 2014
International Joint Commissions U.S. commissioners want to discuss changes
This morning, I was made aware that the U.S. members of the International Joint Commission want to meet to do something about the lake level.
This is what we have been waiting for; a reconsideration of Plan 2014 because of the devastating flooding it has caused to the homes, businesses and embayments along the south shore of Lake Ontario. All of the U.S. commissioners on the IJC want to meet to propose the suspension of Plan 2014 and return to Plan 1958dd, which governed lake levels successfully, for the most part, for more than 50 years. Incoming US IJC Chairwoman Jane Corwin has seen the damage and the high water firsthand she said that if these excessive water levels are the new normal, then the plan must be re-examined.
However, at least some of the Canadian IJC members will have to agree to the 2014 Plan suspension, but at least this meeting is a start to realistically address this crisis on Lake Ontario. I am in complete support of U.S. Chair Corwin and her colleagues.
