Lavine & Fugazy Scagliola Help Secure Oyster Bay Line Additional Direct Express Train
GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) and Glen Cove City Councilwoman Danielle Fugazy Scagliola are elated over the addition of a direct morning rush hour express train to Penn Station on the Oyster Bay branch of the Long Island Railroad. The two have continued to work closely with LIRR and MTA officials since a series of improvements went into effect last year, including the elimination of stops on several rush hour trains. This new direct train will leave Oyster Bay at 7:17 a.m., giving riders something they have never had before – two direct trains to Penn Station during the morning rush.
Lavine said: “This additional direct train to Penn in the morning represents a major step in the right direction for North Shore riders of the LIRR. We have a great relationship with the MTA and LIRR and I look forward to continuing to work with our partners in those agencies to find ways to enhance service and make life a little more convenient for residents who rely on the convenience of taking the train as a mode of transportation.”
Fugazy Scagliola said: “I am thankful that the LIRR is making adjustments to be more accommodating to Oyster Bay riders. Adding another direct westbound train in the morning is another step in the right direction. I look forward to continuing to work with the LIRR, Chuck Lavine, and the ridership to create more positive change for our commuters. I am hopeful we will now turn our attention toward improving our evening eastbound commutes.”
According to MTA officials, the 7:17 a.m. train will still stop at Jamaica for riders who need to transfer for service to Hunterspoint Ave or Atlantic Terminal. It joins the 5:58 AM giving riders a second direct option in the morning. For specific details of all trains on the Oyster Bay branch they urge riders to go to the MTA website or the TrainTime app.
