Ra Legislation To Address Noise Pollution Reported Out Of Ways And Means
Bill would require Port Authority to study aircraft noise over Long Island, should come up for a vote on Assembly floor before Legislative Session ends next week
Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-19th District), Assemblyman Brian Curran and Assemblywoman Michele Titus to address aircraft noise cleared another hurdle today when it was reported out of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, meaning it should come to the Assembly floor for a vote before the end of the 2013 Legislative Session. This bill, requiring the Port Authority to conduct an aircraft noise impact study, will be crucial in addressing the increased air traffic over Long Island and its detrimental impact to residents’ quality of life.
“I’m pleased that my legislation concerning aircraft noise has cleared the Ways and Means Committee and am hopeful that it will be voted on by the Assembly before session ends next Thursday. This is an important issue for our residents, considering that the massive increase in air traffic over Long Island has led to an unacceptable rise in noise pollution,” said Ra. “With this study on aircraft noise, we can better determine the use of certain runways and flight paths. If passed, this bill will greatly enhance the quality of life for all of Long Island.”
