Local Veterans Keep Ra’s Annual Appreciation Picnic Special
Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) recently held his annual “Heroes For Heroes” veterans appreciation picnic at VFW Post 2718 in Franklin Square. With the help of volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 93, Ra and his staff were able to serve over 100 picnic lunches to local veterans and their guests.
“It’s always important for us to say ‘thank you’ to the men and women who love their country so much they were willing to put everything on the line,” said Ra.
State and county officials were on hand to counsel veterans about services available to them, particularly concerning mental health, dealing with the ongoing pandemic and taking advantage of VA programming. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell and Sharran Chambers Murphy from the Vets Center all attended the picnic.
“I want to thank everyone who came together for our veterans today, especially our generous hosts from VFW Post 2718, our civic-minded scouts from Troop 93 and all of the state and county officials who offered detailed information and unconditional support to our guests. What a great day,” said Ra.
