Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh) has co-sponsored a landmark package of reproductive rights legislation that will protect and strengthen a woman’s right to control her own body.  The Assembly is scheduled to take a vote on this package tomorrow, January 22, 2019, the 46^th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

The Reproductive Health Act will codify the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade and will allow women to make reproductive health decisions without fear of criminal prosecution by eliminating existing penalties from New York State law.

The Comprehensive Contraceptive Act will eliminate co-pays and deductibles for contraceptives and require insurance companies to provide women with a 12-month supply of any FDA-approved method of contraception when prescribed by a doctor.

The Boss Bill, sometimes known as the “Hobby Lobby” Bill, will protect employees’ right to make reproductive health decisions without fear of discrimination or retaliatory action from their employers.

Many New Yorkers have been surprised to learn that women’s reproductive rights are not fully protected in the State should the Supreme Court overturn or otherwise erode the holdings in Roe v. Wade.

Jacobson is proud to co-sponsor legislation shielding women in New York from decisions made on the national level.

“Women’s reproductive rights should not be subject to the whims of the Trump Administration or Supreme Court,” said Jacobson.
