Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) is calling on Nuvance Health to put its relocation savings toward better pay for essential health care workers at its medical facilities.

Responding to the news that Nuvance Health is relocating the LaGrangeville portion of its corporate offices to Danbury, Connecticut, Jacobson said, “While I understand the decision to consolidate its corporate offices, I am calling upon Nuvance to use its million-plus dollars savings to increase the pay of essential healthcare workers who are combatting COVID-19 on the front lines. Increases should also be given to support personnel whose work also puts them at risk during the current pandemic.

“Last fall, I joined a picket line at Vassar Brothers Medical Center advocating for increased pay for essential healthcare workers. At the time, Nuvance said they could not afford to pay their workers more. Now, they can.

“Losing the Nuvance offices is a blow to Dutchess County, particularly at a time when municipalities and counties across the country are facing decreased tax revenue. However, Nuvance – which this week is cutting the ribbon on a $500 million-dollar patient pavilion at Vassar Brothers – could offset this, in a small way, by increasing the wages of their heroic healthcare workers.”

In addition to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, Nuvance owns The Dyson Breast Cancer Center in Poughkeepsie, Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, and Putnam Hospital in Carmel as well as numerous other facilities in New York and Connecticut.
