Slater Backs the Blue, Calls for End to Lawlessness at Local Press Conference
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) joined Congressman Mike Lawler, Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville, and police chiefs and district attorneys from the Towns of Ramapo, Clarkstown, Suffern, Westchester County and throughout the Hudson Valley at a press conference denouncing various soft-on-crime laws and to support local law enforcement. Elected officials joined law enforcement for a roundtable discussion on cashless bail laws, Raise the Age and how to best support law enforcement.
“The ironic reality right now is that our police and first responders are under attack,” Slater said. “These soft-on-crime laws are turning our streets into the wild west and emboldening criminals at the expense of our families’ safety. Progressives in Albany are continuing to make all crime less and less punitive, which sends the wrong message to society and our youth. We stand here in support of all men and women in blue and those who have to clean up the consequences of these laws. They will forever have our support.”
“We’re not saying the sky is falling but it’s coming pretty close. These laws are a detriment to what used to be the great State of New York. It’s good, decent people in underserved communities who bear the brunt of these laws everyday that just make people unsafe. Bail reform, discovery, Raise the Age, handcuff police from doing what they do and that is to protect the good and decent people of society,” said Robert Noble, Yorktown Police Chief and President of the Westchester County Chiefs of Police Association.
