**Letter to DOT Commissioner Dominguez Attached**

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) is leading a group of local officials and concerned residents who would like to see repairs made to a section of Route 202 in the Town of Somers, Westchester County. Slater penned a letter (LINK TO PDF) to New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez in late March asking for the department to address a two-mile section of the road in poor condition between Routes 118 and 139.

“Having met with Region 8 (DOT) leadership, this corridor was not identified on their resurfacing schedule…as you know, since it is a state road the responsibility falls to your agency to rectify the situation which is why I am requesting your assistance,” Slater wrote in the letter.

“Deteriorated roads are not just a hassle, they’re extremely dangerous for drivers and wreak havoc on our vehicles. I am hopeful that Commissioner Dominguez and her team at the DOT will repair this crumbling section of road so folks have peace of mind during the busy summer travel season and that the state fully commits to Hudson Valley’s infrastructure needs moving forward,” Slater finished.

Somers Town Supervisor Robert Scorrano said, “For many years, the state roads in Somers have been neglected. The Town of Somers, due to its proximity and location, has become a significant cut-through for two major highways, 684 and the Taconic, causing added pressure to the six state roads inside our borders. Route 202 has become the hardest hit because it runs directly through the heart of Somers, causing undue strain on our resident’s vehicles. Our roads desperately need repair, and I am happy that Assemblyman Matt Slater is spearheading our call.”

Somers Highway Superintendent Nick DeVito said, “I field calls and emails from Somers residents regarding the conditions of our state roads daily. Unfortunately, Somers Highway saw it firsthand this winter while attempting to plow Route 202. Our plows bounce off the patches and potholes forcing us to use abundant salt in a watershed area (and damaging our equipment). When I reached out to Assemblyman Slater, he responded immediately and, more importantly, listened. It's great to know that our partner in Albany is looking out for our Town.”
