Assemblyman Slater Visits Tree Bank at Willow Park to Plant Trees in Celebration of Earth Day
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) joined Yorktown's Tree Conservatory Advisory Commission over the weekend to celebrate Earth Day by planting trees at the town’s Tree Bank at Willow Park. The commission purchased 55 trees to add to the nursery to give back to the Earth and continue to make it a cleaner and greener home. Back when Slater was town supervisor the Tree Bank at Willow Park was an important initiative.
“I am happy to see it come to fruition with the continued support of Supervisor Diana and the Town Board. This tree bank will help us replace diseased or fallen trees and it was a great part of our Earth Day celebration. It is important to remember to treat every day like it’s Earth Day and so I encourage everyone to do their part in restoring our environment and contributing to making our environment an everlasting safe place for future generations,” said Slater.
“We’re just very excited to be getting these trees planted and the tree nursery started,” said Keith Schepart, I.S.A certified arborist and member of the commission. “The trees planted in the spring of 2023 will be harvested and planted throughout the town starting in the autumn of 2025.”
“The tree bank is a great way for us to have some mature trees for planting. It will help mitigate the much-needed construction of diverse housing stock,” said Councilman of Yorktown, Ed Lachterman.
