Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) is celebrating with the community the recent announcement that work will soon begin on a $17.4 million project to rehabilitate three highway bridges in the Hudson Valley in desperate need of enhanced safety and resiliency repairs. The project is financed thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and is expected to include new deck installation, road surface revitalization and other repairs. Bridges along State Route 52 in Orange County, State Route 304 in Rockland County and Illington Road in Westchester County are all set for repairs and refurbishment, and each is more than 50 years old.

“These bridges are high-focus traffic thruways and are used by thousands of motorists to reach the major highways of the Hudson Valley Region. I’m thrilled to hear we’re reinforcing their infrastructure and ensuring their long-term viability,” Slater said. “As a member of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee, I’ve known about the need for this work for some time, so to come together as a state with this project was immensely important. These bridges will remain critical for transportation throughout the region, and these investments will ensure residents of the Hudson Valley can rely on these roadways for many years to come.”

Yorktown Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli applauded today’s announcement, saying “This is an important investment by New York State that will greatly benefit many residents of Yorktown. As Highway Superintendent, safety has always been top priority and this project will keep motorists who drive through this area safe.”

“It’s great to see New York State investing money into infrastructure in the Hudson Valley. I want to thank Assemblyman Matt Slater for fighting for this and making it a reality. I hope the Governor and DOT realize that this is just a starting point and continue to make bridges safe,” said Ed Lactherman, Supervisor of the Town of Yorktown.

The project will rehabilitate the following bridges:

• State Route 52 over Interstate 84 in the Town of Newburgh, Orange County, which was originally built in 1963.
• State Route 304 over Interstate 287 in the Town of Clarkstown, Rockland County, which was originally built in 1953.
• Illington Road over the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Yorktown, Westchester County, which was originally built in 1967.

Construction crews have already begun on the State Route 52 and Illington Road bridges, with construction on the State Route 304 bridge to begin soon. The entire project is anticipated to be finished by the summer of 2026. In the meantime, shoulder closures will be in place along Interstate 84, the Taconic State Parkway and Interstate 287, with State Route 52 and State Route 304 being reduced to one lane in each direction and the Illington Road overpass closing entirely.
