Slater: Addressing Failing Septic Systems in Putnam Valley, Urging DEC for Expanded Support
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R-Yorktown) and Senator Rob Rolison recently met with concerned residents of Putnam Valley to address the growing issue of failing septic systems in communities lacking sewer infrastructure. Following the meeting, they sent a joint letter to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), urging the agency to expand the State’s Septic System Replacement Fund to include certain lakes in Putnam Valley.
The request stems from property owners who have continuously sought assistance as aging septic systems pose environmental and financial burdens. By expanding the eligibility for the Septic System Replacement Fund, the goal is to provide necessary financial support to upgrade failing systems, thereby protecting water quality, and improving public health for affected communities.
“We’ve heard the concerns of residents loud and clear,” said Slater. “It’s critical that we act to ensure these communities receive the support they need to address failing septic systems. Expanding eligibility for this funding is a vital first step in addressing the infrastructure challenges that Putnam Valley faces.”
“Our region's aging infrastructure is putting residents and the environment at risk. Assemblyman Slater and I have heard firsthand from our lake communities why this septic funding is so critical, and why it should be expanded to include additional waterways. I will continue to fight to enlarge the scope of funding for these at-risk communities in Putnam Valley and I welcome the opportunity to work with my colleagues to deliver safe, new infrastructure to the Hudson Valley,” said Sen. Rob Rolison.
“I would like to thank Assemblyman Matt Slater and Senator Rob Rolison for their advocacy and ongoing efforts to support the inclusion of Putnam Valley Lake districts in the next round of state grant funding. Our town is home to many properties with outdated septic systems that are in dire need of repair or replacement. Access to this grant funding will provide homeowners and businesses the financial assistance they need to make essential upgrades, ensuring that our town remains a healthy and sustainable place to live,” said Jacqueline Annabi, Town Supervisor of Putnam Valley.
