Slater Celebrates Read Across America Day as Guest Reader at Putnam Valley Library
In celebration of National Read Across America Day, Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) visited the Putnam Valley Library on Friday, Feb. 28, to take part in a special storytime session with local children. Read Across America Day, observed annually on March 2, is a nationwide initiative to promote a love of reading among young kids.
Assemblyman Slater was thrilled to share a story with the children and emphasized the importance of reading in early childhood development.
“Instilling a love of reading in our children is one of the greatest gifts we can give them for a bright future,” said Slater. “In today’s digital age, where kids are constantly surrounded by screens, developing strong literacy skills is more important than ever. I was thrilled to help spark a passion for reading at the Putnam Library and look forward to another wonderful storytime session at the Somers Library later this month.”
Putnam Valley Library Director Amina Chaudhri expressed appreciation for Slater’s participation, saying: “The patrons and staff of the Putnam Valley Library thoroughly enjoyed Matt Slater’s Storytime this morning! Assemblyman Slater continues to be a huge supporter, and we are so grateful for all of his work on behalf of libraries.”
Slater previously served as the ranking Minority member on the Assembly Library Committee and remains committed to supporting libraries as vital community hubs. He continues to advocate for policies that strengthen library resources and ensure they remain accessible for all residents.
