Slater Brings 40+ Organizations Together to Support Local Seniors
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) held his third annual senior resource fair for seniors, caregivers and family members to connect with valuable resources, including elder-care attorneys, Medicare specialists, assisted-living facilities, telehealth services, Alzheimer’s and memory care organizations and state and county services for older adults. The fair also featured a prescription medication drop-off program, helping seniors safely dispose of unused or expired medications.
“Our senior resource fair has become one of the most important traditions we host each year because it provides tangible assistance to older adults and their families,” said Slater. “Whether it’s getting answers about Medicare, learning more about memory care or simply knowing what local services are available, we want to connect people with the tools they need to live with security and peace of mind. I’m proud to see its continued growth, with more than 40 organizations stepping up to serve our community, and I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s fair a success.”
More than 300 people attended the highly anticipated event, underscoring the strong demand for resources and information. Seniors who participated said they found the fair especially beneficial. “It’s not always easy to know where to turn when you need help, but this fair brought everything right to us,” said Tim Smith, a resident of Yorktown. “I really appreciate Assemblyman Slater bringing this to our community so that seniors can learn about the resources and programs available to us.”
Attendees were able to ask questions, receive personalized guidance and learn about programs specifically designed to meet their needs. Among the many participating organizations was NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, which offered valuable guidance.
“NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital is committed to improving the health of our communities,” said Paul Dunphey, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. “We were pleased to take part in this year’s senior resource fair, sharing health education and resources for older adults, caregivers, and families.”
The strong turnout reflected how effective and practical the fair has become for the community. Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman, who attended the event, said, “Assemblyman Slater’s senior resource fair is a much-needed forum for Yorktown seniors in the ever-changing landscape of available resources. We appreciate this being held in the heart of our senior community, Jefferson Village.”
