Statement from Assemblyman Matt Slater on Con Edison Rate Hike
January 23, 2026
“I’m disappointed—but not surprised—by the Public Service Commission’s decision to approve a three-year Con Edison rate hike that will raise electric bills by 10.4% and gas bills by 15.8%. Our community is already stretched thin, and now they’re being told to pay even more just to keep their homes warm and the lights on.
“The Governor keeps talking about fixing the affordability crisis, but her own Public Service Commission is approving these massive increases. You can’t claim to be fighting for working families while signing off on policies that drive up the cost of basic necessities. This is the result of years of poor policy, and it’s proof Albany is not doing what it should to make New York affordable.”
