Novakhov Responds to Migrants Being Housed in School Gyms

Statement by Assemblyman Michael Novakhov (R-Brooklyn)

“It is completely unacceptable that the city is sending migrants to live in local public-school gymnasiums. Schools should be safe-haven places of learning for our children, not places to house hundreds of migrants that our schools, teachers and parents do not know. This is but another example of how a lack of planning when it comes to migrants negatively affects the citizens of New York, and this time it is affecting the most vulnerable among us: our children. I am calling for all migrants currently being housed in schools to be relocated to other, more appropriate locations. New York City is the land of hope, dreams and opportunity. Unfortunately, city officials have now made our city the land of chaos, confusion and inhumanity.”
