VFW Post 1790 Hosts Annual Turkey Drive in Valley Stream

Valley Stream, NY – Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages joined the annual VFW Post 1790 turkey drive on Friday with volunteers from organizations across the community, distributing hundreds of turkeys and other food items to families and individuals. The drive took place at the VFW Post 1790 building on East Merrick Road.

Assemblywoman Solages’ office staff and interns collaborated with Post 1790 members, students from SUNY Old Westbury and SUNY Maritime, members of the Knickerbocker Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and other dedicated volunteers to sort and distribute items to members of the community.

Food and other essential supplies were donated by King Kullen, Crown 1 Enterprises, Long Island Cares, and Flying Food Group. This collaborative effort between local businesses and community organizations made the turkey drive successful in alleviating some of the needs in the Valley Stream community for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Kevin Hill, US Navy (Ret.), Commander of VFW Post 1790, said, "As we approach Thanksgiving, we must always remember our neighbors in need. We want everyone to have an enjoyable Thanksgiving without worrying about cost. VFW Post 1790 is proud to host this turkey drive each year, and we thank all the volunteers and organizations who make this possible. We are proud to serve the Valley Stream community. Please remember: let’s respect and be kind to each other.”

Assemblywoman Solages said, “VFW Post 1790 does an incredible service to our community by hosting this annual turkey drive. With so many of our neighbors struggling with the affordability crisis, it is more important than ever to band together to support one another. I’m grateful to our local veterans for their ongoing commitment to service, and to all the community groups, donors, and volunteers who make this food drive a success.”
