Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages Hosts Water Quality Town Hall to Address Long Island’s Water Future
Valley Stream, NY – Nearly 100 Long Island residents attended a Water Quality Town Hall hosted by Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages in Valley Stream. The event focused on protecting Long Island’s aquifer system, addressing PFOS and PFOA contamination, and ensuring clean drinking water for generations.
“Long Island’s water comes from a sole-source aquifer, making it one of our most valuable natural resources,” said Assemblywoman Solages. “We must take proactive steps to protect it from pollution, overuse, and emerging contaminants like PFOS and PFOA.”
Panelists from Citizens Campaign for the Environment, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Liberty Water, and Operation SPLASH shared insights on water quality monitoring, conservation strategies, and ongoing efforts to reduce contamination. Discussions highlighted advancements in filtration technology, regulatory updates, and ways residents can contribute to water protection.
“Clean, safe drinking water is a priority for all Long Islanders,” added Assemblywoman Solages. “By working together – residents, advocates, and policymakers – we can ensure our water remains protected for future generations.”
