Assw. Solages Collaborates with American Red Cross in Greater NY’s Sound the Alarm Campaign on Long Island
Solages installs smoke alarms at resident’s home

Elmont, NY – In collaboration with the American Red Cross in Greater NY, Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages installed several free smoke alarms in the home of Elmont resident Paule Charles. This year, the American Red Cross is seeking to install 100,000 free smoke alarms throughout the United States. Every day, 7 people die in home fires and tragically, most victims die in homes that don’t have working smoke alarms.
Assemblywoman Solages and the volunteers installed the smoke alarms by placing them on every level and in all the sleeping areas of the home in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association's guidelines.
“It was such an easy and stress-free process. I just made an appointment, they showed up to my home and I let them in to assess my house for smoke detectors. There was no way I was going to install these myself and these free smoke alarms help me avoid the costs of buying them. This is a great initiative that can really help older and disabled community people. Thank you to Assemblywoman Solages and American Red Cross NY for bringing this to our area,” stated Paule Charles, resident of Elmont, N.Y.

Assemblywoman Solages invites individuals and organizations to register for the campaign to end home fires. Volunteers will work alongside fire departments and other local groups to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, and educate families about fire prevention and safety.
