Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Statement on Vicious Attack of Orthodox Man in Brooklyn
Last Sunday, October 14, an Orthodox Jewish man was attacked in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Borough Park. The attack was captured via various local security cameras and appeared to be entirely unprovoked.
Like all of you, I was genuinely shocked and outraged by this violent and unprovoked attack upon this man. I was equally upset to witness the assailant attack another Orthodox Jewish man who was trying to assist the first victim.
When an individual who is obviously identified as an Orthodox Jew by the clothes they are wearing is the victim of an unprovoked attack, one has to conclude that this individual is a victim of a hate crime. We are pleased that the NYPD has apprehended the assailant and that DA Eric Gonzalez is conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation. Currently, the assailant is out on bail which was granted by the judge overseeing the case.
We are confident the facts will be borne out, and that justice will prevail. My office and I stand with the Orthodox and Jewish community and all other communities in condemning this violent and vicious attack and insisting that this man is held fully accountable for his actions. We stand against hate!
