Hawley Encourages Volunteer Fire Departments to Apply for V-FIRE Grants

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) is urging volunteer fire departments and fire districts throughout the region to apply for funding through the state’s Volunteer Fire Infrastructure and Response Equipment (V-FIRE) Grant Program, which is now open for applications.

The $25 million competitive grant program provides critical funding to strengthen volunteer fire departments and improve emergency response capabilities across New York State. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026.

Under the program, eligible applicants may request:

  • Up to $1,000,000 for construction, renovation or upgrades to essential facilities such as fire stations and training buildings
  • Up to $500,000 for approved fire service equipment that enhances response readiness and safety

“Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of public safety in our rural communities,” Hawley said. “This program helps ensure departments have modern facilities and reliable equipment so they can continue protecting our residents effectively and safely. I strongly encourage every eligible department to apply.”
