Huntington, NY – Assemblyman Steve Stern, (D-10th AD) announced that funding has been secured for the Huntington Public Library from the 2017-2018 Capital fund for public library infrastructure projects. The library has been awarded $77,500 in state aid for library construction funds to provide much needed upgrades to the library’s HVAC system, to install new fire alarm panels and to install energy efficient LED fixtures.

New York’s public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. The Huntington Public Library, with roots dating back to 1759, was the first public library in Suffolk County. The current building was built in 1916, and became the library’s home in 1958.

“I am proud to announce this critical funding for the Huntington Public Library,” Assemblyman Stern said. “Our libraries are the heart of our communities, offering classes, training, summer reading programs, computer access, and so much more. In my brief time in the Assembly, I have worked to bring home resources for our Long Island community and look forward to enjoying the improvements this funding will provide.”

“We are very appreciative to be the recipient of this construction grant from New York State,” added Huntington Public Library Director Joanne Adam. “This grant will enable us to upgrade our HVAC and lighting systems to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. It will help to give our patrons a more comfortable library experience while also reducing our operating expenses.”
