Assembly District 55
William F. Boyland, Jr.
Dear Friends,
New York State has just finished 09 2010 fiscal budget as of April 30th 2009. It was a most difficult budget because of the almost depressionary status of our state’s economy as well as the extreme crisis facing our nation.
With revenue falling, and natural trend factors continuing to grow, we were confronting difficult problems, we haven’t had in over two decades; that of providing needed dollars to stabilize our state and to build some economic growth to help provide jobs and to maintain much of the work force we have at present. The economic stimulus help in some measures by defraying some of the financing of vital services yet it did not go far enough in stimulating additional opportunities for those homeowners who are nearing foreclosure and many of those who facing high credit card debts. It also added some financing to those projects that are preparing to do major capital work who are “shovel ready”.
New York State at present does not seem to have any major depressionary symptoms; although, unemployment is rapidly closing in on 9 percent. The national unemployment rate has risen to 9.5 percent; our housing foreclosure rate seems to be stabilizing which are indicators that insure that the budget and its projections are fiscally responsible. This year we have been able to provide funds to provide for our senior citizens, education and healthcare.
As you know the summer season in upon us and this means schools out and BBQ’s are in. We encourage you to enjoy the numerous events that are planned for the community and for families to enjoy themselves. At the same time, keep in mind that though summer is a time for play, make sure to keep a watchful eye on your children at all times.
As your Assemblyman, it is important for me to know that the constituents of the 55th AD understand that I am here to serve them, not only by listening to what they have to say, but by taking their very words and putting them into action.
Please continue to voice your opinions by stopping into the district of coming out to the Advisory Council Meeting that is held the 2nd Saturday of each month. The meeting is held at my office located at 467 Thomas S. Boyland Street, starting at 10:00am.
