As one of the first women elected to the New York State Legislature from our region, I’m pleased to join in a panel discussion on women entering and serving the public through electoral politics. Tomorrow morning (Friday, September 13), Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk, Senator Kathy Marchione, and I will speak about entering public life and the challenges and issues that face women in office. The panel will be moderated by Capital Tonight’s Liz Benjamin, a trailblazer of political journalism in her own right. The event is at 10 a.m. at Bush Memorial Center on the Russell Sage College campus in Troy and is open to the public. As you may have read in the Times Union, the C-SPAN bus will also be visiting their campus and will open its doors to students, faculty, and the public. The bus will be located on 1st Street, near Bush Memorial Center, at the corner of Congress Street in Troy. An interactive, multimedia presentation center, it includes touch-screen access to C-SPAN’s vast video library, interactive quizzes on American leaders and the political process and ways to connect with C-SPAN via social media. The bus is currently touring the country to promote C-SPAN’s second season of First Ladies: Influence and Image, which begins this fall. As we move toward the fall, if you have any upcoming events or happenings in your neighborhood, let my office know by sending us a note. As always, for the latest about my office’s happenings or for upcoming events, please visit my office online, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Sincerely ---
