Upstate Prisons In Peril As Gov. Cuomo Appoints New Downstate Ally To Corrections Department

Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C – East Aurora), whose district houses Attica Collins, Wyoming, and Gowanda correctional facilities, expressed outrage regarding new appointments to the Cuomo Administration at a time when cuts are being made. Peter Vallone Jr. was recently appointed Special Assistant assigned to the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

“The governor making unnecessary appointments to downstate allies as our prisons are in danger of being shutdown is completely unacceptable,” DiPietro said. “We’re finding imaginary money to provide college educations for convicts, and paying ‘special assistants’ to do who-knows-what, while prisons and correction officers’ jobs are on the chopping block. This cannot be allowed to stand.”

Assemblyman David DiPietro recently spoke at a rally for the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA). His remarks can be seen here.
