Assemblymember Amy Paulin Statement Regarding the Filing of Legal Action by Governor Hochul and Attorney General James to Block New Jersey from Terminating Waterfront Commission
“The Waterfront Commission plays a critical role in protecting the Port of New York and New Jersey from the influence of organized crime and ensuring that hiring is done on a fair and non-discriminatory basis. The dissolution of the Commission would leave a serious void in port oversight.
Accepting NJ’s unilateral withdrawal would also establish a dangerous precedent for the operation and governance of the Port Authority and all other similarly organized compacts. It is critical to NY and NJ that we protect the role that both states play in bi-state agencies and commissions.
For these reasons I applaud the steps Governor Hochul and Attorney General James are taking to require the continuation of the Waterfront Commission and its mission to monitor organized crime in the Port.”
