Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful summer.

As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, I'm proud to share that I once again passed more bills in both houses of the Legislature than any other Assemblymember β€” 38 in total during the 2025 session. Among those, many focus on improving the health and wellbeing of New Yorkers.

In this email I’m highlighting nine key health-related bills that demonstrate my commitment to healthcare access, equity, and care that meets people where they are. Here are just a few of these bills:

🦷 A.2341 – Authorizes dental hygienists to provide preventive oral health services without direct supervision under a collaborative practice agreement, improving access to oral health care across the state.

🧠 A.1017 – Directs the Department of Health to develop and distribute educational materials on drug-induced movement disorders to reduce stigma and raise awareness.

πŸ’“ A.1395 – Allows close friends to authorize anatomical gifts on behalf of a deceased loved one, expanding access to organ and tissue donation.

πŸ§ͺ A.1468 – Clarifies qualifications for clinical lab and blood bank directors, ensuring alignment with federal standards and enhancing safety and oversight.

πŸ”’ A.1894 – Repeals the outdated law requiring physicians to report patients with substance use disorders, protecting confidentiality and strengthening the patient-provider relationship.

🧬 A.1985 – Establishes the nation’s first statewide registry for Frontotemporal Degeneration, increasing data collection and public awareness of this underdiagnosed disease.

🚨 A.2725 – Requires workplaces with federally mandated first aid kits to include opioid antagonists like naloxone, boosting safety and preparedness during overdose emergencies.

πŸ“˜ A.3939 – Requires the State Office for the Aging to publish a β€œGuide to Action When Someone Close Dies,” offering legal, financial, and emotional support during times of loss.

🩺 A.916 – Updates the Family Health Care Decisions Act to improve clarity and protections for health care agents and proxies making critical end-of-life decisions.

I look forward to sharing more highlights with you soon. And as your representative in the Assembly, I always want to hear your views. My staff is available to help you with concerns or questions via any of the methods below:

Here is a look back at some of the wonderful moments I've spent visiting local hospitals and health centers, meeting with patients, and advocating for policies that support and grow our healthcare workforce.
