Assemblyman Santabarbara: Mobile Sports Betting Has Taken New York from Losing Revenue to Others States to Generating More Than Any Other State in Less Than a Year

Millions in new revenue be allocated to education aid, youth sports and responsible gambling programs

“As a long-standing member of the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee, I’m proud of our work in turning New York into a leader among states in creating successful gaming policies in a short time period. Though it’s only been in operation since January 8th, the revenue generated by New York’s mobile sports wagering program has far surpassed the Division of the Budget’s 2022 revenue projections. Before the official launch date, mobile sports wagering was expected to generate $249 million in annual tax revenue. However, as of October 30th, the state has generated over $542 million in tax revenue along with an additional $200 million in licensing fees. That means, in less than a year, New York has gone from losing revenue to other states to generating more than any other state, bringing in more than $740 million in additional revenue which will largely support our schools.”
