Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Secures Funding to Expand City Mission's Downtown Ambassador Program in Schenectady
Satellite office to be opened on Jay Street
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is pleased to announce funding he secured in this year's state budget to expand the City Mission's Downtown Ambassador program. This initiative will be utilized to open a satellite office and hub on Jay Street in the heart of downtown Schenectady.
The Downtown Ambassador program, established by the City Mission, employs individuals they support and provides them with an opportunity to re-enter the workforce. These Ambassadors have played a crucial role in welcoming visitors to the city by offering assistance including crossing streets, providing directions, parking guidance, and recommending local restaurants and more. This program not only empowers men and women to gain valuable work experience but also marks the beginning of their journey towards sustainability.
With the secured funding, the City Mission will expand the Downtown Ambassador program further. The additional resources will enable the program to offer peer support to currently homeless individuals, connecting them directly with essential services, shelters, and rehabilitation programs. The expanded Downtown Ambassador program not only transforms the lives of the Ambassadors but also creates a positive ripple effect in the community. By providing peer support and direct connections to services, the City Mission seeks to address the root causes of homelessness, ultimately fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara expresses his commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift and strengthen the Schenectady community. The funding he secured for the expansion of the Downtown Ambassador program aligns with his dedication to creating opportunities for individuals to break the cycle of homelessness and build a more vibrant and inclusive city.
