Assemblyman Santabarbara Appointed Chair of the New York State Assembly Libraries and Education Technology Committee

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced that he was appointed the new chair of the Assembly’s Libraries and Education Technology Committee by Speaker Carl Heastie on Monday, January 8th, 2024.

“As the new chair of the Assembly’s Libraries and Education Technology Committee, I look forward to continuing to support local libraries across the state,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “Though some may only think of libraries as places to borrow books, these institutions play a much larger role in our communities and serve as a hub for a variety of services and resources. They not only foster a love of art and literature but also provide a safe place for people of all ages to come together and develop new skills, access information, engage in enriching programs or simply relax and connect with their neighbors. I am determined to uphold the public good of these institutions and look forward to working with my colleagues to secure funding and pass meaningful legislation to support our libraries.”

Santabarbara has championed libraries throughout his tenure in the state Assembly. He helped secure funding for two new libraries in the City of Schenectady: Mont Pleasant Library and Phyllis Bornt Branch Library & Literacy Center. In addition, he helped deliver vital funding for the over 120- year-old Amsterdam Free Library, a treasured institution in the community.
