March 13th is K9 Veterans Day

Assemblyman Santabarbara to recognize police and rescue dogs from Schenectady Police Department and the Schenectady and Montgomery County Sheriffs’ Departments

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara attended a special gathering at the State Capitol on Monday, March 13th, in observance of K9 Veterans Day. The event aims to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of military, police, and rescue dogs across New York State. Local service dogs from the Schenectady Police Department, as well as the Schenectady County and Montgomery County Sheriffs’ Departments, will be present. Following the ceremony, a resolution will be presented in the State Assembly, officially designating March 13th as K-9 Veterans Day in New York State, honoring the enduring service and protection provided by these remarkable animals. From their historic roles in World War II to their ongoing duties today, military and law enforcement canine units hold a cherished place in American history.
