Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara to Host Meeting with Commissioner Richard Ball of NYS Agriculture & Markets and the Schenectady County Food Council
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is pleased to announce that Commissioner Richard Ball of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets will be meeting with the Schenectady County Food Council on Thursday, August 8, 2024. The event will take place at 2:00 PM at the Legacy Cafe at the City Mission in Schenectady, followed by a tour of the Fehr Avenue Farm operated by the Sycamore Collaborative.
As a Steering Committee member of the Schenectady County Food Council, Assemblyman Santabarbara emphasizes the importance of this visit in addressing key issues related to local agriculture, food policy, and hunger prevention. Commissioner Ball will provide insights into his work and engage with the council members to discuss strategies for improving access to healthy, locally- grown food.
The meeting agenda includes introductions, a brief overview by Commissioner Ball on statewide agriculture issues, discussion of the recently passed Urban Farming Land Initiative sponsored by Assemblyman Santabarbara that awaits the Governor’s signature, presentations from council members, and a Q&A session. Following the meeting, attendees will tour the Fehr Avenue Farm, where they will learn about community composting, herb gardening, beekeeping, and community-based urban agriculture.
