Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Honors Local Women at 2024 Women of Distinction Ceremony
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara held his annual Women of Distinction Ceremony tonight at i7 Events in Viaport Mall, celebrating extraordinary local women who have made significant contributions to their communities. This evening’s honorees represented diverse fields, each bringing unique strengths, unwavering dedication, and exceptional service to the Capital Region. The event highlighted their achievements in community service, professional excellence, and advocacy, underscoring their lasting impact on those around them.
“This year’s Women of Distinction embody the spirit of service, resilience, and community uplift,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “Their stories and accomplishments inspire us all, and it’s a privilege to honor them tonight.”
This year’s distinguished honorees include:
- Maura Furey: Co-founder of the Schenectady chapter of StreetSoldiers, Maura has volunteered weekly to support neighbors in need and contributed her time to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the American Diabetes Association, and the Air and Waste Management Association.
- Jennifer Hendricks Fogg: Drawing on her experiences as a mother to her son Logan, who has faced cancer and other challenges, Jennifer supports families of special needs children through her role as a speaker, coach, and founder of the Logan Strong Foundation.
- Shawnta Rivas: A community advocate, Shawnta has led efforts like Random Santa Drop-Offs and the 518 Common Unity Cup. Her leadership at COCOA House has positively impacted the Hamilton Hill Community, providing essential resources to local youth.
- Janice Kallicharan: As an immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago, Janice opened the first West Indian hair and beauty salon in Schenectady. Since 2003, her contributions have supported business growth and property rejuvenation in the area.
- Sylvia Jimison: Recently retired, Sylvia has contributed to education and community service, with over 15 years dedicated to GED and college prep programs for low-income individuals.
- Heather Lopez: A longtime board member and Resource Development Chairwoman for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Heather has also contributed to the Montgomery County SPCA and organizes community food drives.
- Rebekka Henriksen: As Farm to School Project Manager, Rebekka has enhanced educational opportunities in the Schenectady City School District through school gardens and hands-on learning experiences.
