Assemblyman Santabarbara to Host New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for Tour of Future Electric City Community Grocery Site

Visit Will Highlight Community-Led Effort to Bring a Community-Owned Grocery Store to Downtown Schenectady

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will welcome New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to Schenectady as part of the Speaker’s annual statewide tour for a tour of the future home of the Electric City Community Grocery (ECCG), a community-owned grocery store currently under development in downtown Schenectady.

The visit will provide an opportunity to showcase the vision for the project, progress made to date, and ongoing efforts to bring a community-owned grocery store to downtown Schenectady. Discussions will focus on expanding access to healthy food options, strengthening community ownership, and supporting continued investment in the city’s downtown corridor.

The Electric City Community Grocery is a proposed community-owned grocery store being developed in downtown Schenectady. The project aims to offer conventional grocery items alongside locally sourced, organic, and sustainably produced foods. Once completed, the store plans to accept SNAP benefits and Double Up Food Bucks and serve as a community-focused resource for residents throughout the area.
