Assemblyman Santabarbara Delivers for Montgomery County Schools
Fought for $8.5 million increase over 2012-13
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) announced final school aid figures in the 2013-14 New York State budget, which included an additional $936.6 million over last year’s budget. Each individual school district in the 111th Assembly District will see an increase in aid.
The breakdown is as follows:
- Amsterdam – an increase of $5,237,337, for a total of $38,635,851 (15.68%);
- Canajoharie – an increase of $690,811, for a total of $11,866,486 (6.18%);
- Fonda-Fultonville – an increase of $977,754, for a total of $14,086,846 (7.46%);
- Fort Plain – an increase of $760,688, for a total of $12,609,901 (6.42%); and
- St. Johnsville – an increase of $884,093, for a total of $6,683,470 (15.24%).
“A quality education is a building block for a child’s future. Our kids deserve a quality education so they can be successful when they enter the workforce,” said Santabarbara. “While this extra aid will help offset some of the cuts many of our local schools will be forced to make in order to balance their budgets, more needs to be done to rein in unfunded mandates. Without addressing these burdensome costs, we tie the hands of those who know what’s best for our children.”
