Save Energy, Save Money This Winter
Here in Upstate New York, we are no strangers to cold winters. However, for renters and homeowners, the high cost of heating a home may prove to be a difficult task through these challenging times. That’s why I want to remind you about the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
Eligibility for the program has changed due to COVID-19. I encourage those seeking assistance with their heating costs this winter to check their eligibility.
To apply for HEAP, follow these steps and remember to act quicky – HEAP funding is only available until March 21, 2021, or until it runs out:
- Confirm your eligibility: For information on eligibility requirements, visit otda.ny.gov/programs/heap or call the HEAP hotline at 800-342-3009.
- Apply for HEAP: You can download a HEAP application online at otda.ny.gov/programs/apply/#heap.
- Apply for Emergency HEAP: If you’re in a heat or heat-related emergency, you may be eligible for the Emergency HEAP benefit. Visit otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/#emergency-benefit
