Assemblyman Santabarbara Presents Proclamation Honoring Emma White, Olympic Bronze Medalist

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced that he presented a proclamation to Emma White, a Duanesburg resident that won a bronze medal while representing the United States Cycling Team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, September 15.

“Emma White has brought great pride to her family, community, and our nation for bringing home a bronze medal in her Olympic debut at the Izu Velodrome in Japan,” said Santabarbara. “The Olympics have long been an event where all nations send their strongest athletes to compete on the world stage and, while there, Emma outperformed some of the best cyclists in the world to bring home the bronze. She is an inspiration to so many of our young athletes, and I can’t wait to continue watching her succeed in the future.”

A driven athlete from a young age, White began cycling competitively at 9 years old and quickly established herself in the Northeast as a premier cyclo-cross and top road racer and later went on to win dual silver medals at the 2015 UCI World Championships. In 2016, White joined Rally Cycling as a semester at Union College and began competing professionally. Her racing success earned her a spot on the United States National Team, culminating in her debut at age 23 during the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, where she won a bronze medal in the cycling team pursuit.
