Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) on Saturday, July 22, 2023 attended the dedication of Route 16 in Wales as the “Petty Officer Robert Segool Memorial Highway in honor of Vietnam veteran Robert “Frenchie” Segool.” Segool received a total of 67 medals, awards and commendations, including five Purple Hearts, two Silver Stars and four Bronze Stars with Combat Valor in recognition of his brave military service.

“Heroes like Frenchie are few and far between. Having come from a proud military family, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968 during the heart of the Vietnam War. He is a decorated combat veteran whose achievements and heroism are seldom matched. I am honored to acknowledge Robert’s legacy by renaming a portion of State Route 16 between Emery Road and Darling Road as the ‘Petty Officer Robert Segool Memorial Highway,” said DiPietro.
