DiPietro Sponsors Bill to Dedicate a Section of State Route 75 to WWII Veteran Edward Enser
Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C,I- East Aurora) is proudly introducing legislation to the New York State Assembly that would designate the portion of State Route 75 from Langford Road South to Shirley Road in the town of North Collins as the “Tec. Sgt. 5 Edward Enser Memorial Highway.”
A native of Concord, Tec. Sgt. 5 Enser attended St. Mary’s School in New Oregon and worked with his hands before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. Enser served in the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion and fought on the European front and in Africa during WWII for nearly three years.
Enser’s tank destroyer battalion was given a unit citation during the war for the immense success they saw on the battlefield. While in El Guettar, Tunisia, his unit was able to disable 37 enemy tanks and dispose of numerous other enemy vehicles. On Anzio Beach, Enser earned a Bronze Star for brave and gallant actions above the call of duty. Tec. Sgt 5 Enser crossed enemy lines to repair and re-establish telephone lines and communications equipment crucial to the allied forces.
Enser was also awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during the Anzio Beach fighting. During the war, he and his Tank Destroyers were recognized and received awards numerous times for their dedication and expertise.
“Tec. Sgt. 5 Edward Enser is a true American hero, and I cannot think of a name more fitting for this state highway dedication,” said DiPietro. “A warrior, a family man and a skilled machinist, Enser is exactly the kind of role model that younger generations should look to for inspiration.”
