Assemblywoman Lupardo and Binghamton Housing Authority Announce Completion of Study Rooms

$50,000 Grant secured by Lupardo for Youth Development and Gang Prevention

Binghamton, NY – During a visit to the Carlisle Hills Apartment Complex, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo Mayor Jared Kraham and the Binghamton Housing Authority (BHA) cut the ribbon on the new “Study Center at Carlisle.” The center is one of two funded by a $50,000 grant Lupardo secured from the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services. The funding was part of an effort to provide local organizations with resources needed for youth development and gang prevention efforts.

The Study Centers at the Carlisle Hills and Saratoga Heights apartment complexes will be places for children and young adults to do schoolwork and have access to the internet through computers purchased through the grant. Funds also were used to purchase printers, desks, and other necessary items for the study rooms. Assemblywoman Lupardo was joined by Mayor Jared Kraham, John Klenchik from the Binghamton Housing Authority and Broome County Gang Prevention, and local Binghamton CSD students to announce the completion of the study rooms.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo said, “When resources became available for youth engagement, I knew the Binghamton Housing Authority could use the support. I’m very happy that BHA created these safe spaces where youth can learn and grow. It’s critically important that we continue investing in primary prevention and early intervention for our area youth.”

City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said, “It’s important we deliver resources where they’re needed most. This new study center will have a positive impact not just on Binghamton Housing Authority residents but also on the surrounding neighborhoods. I thank Assemblywoman Lupardo for securing this funding and the Housing Authority for creating these centers where students can focus on schoolwork and have reliable access to the Internet.”

John Klenchik, Broome County Director of Gang Prevention and Youth Development said, “The Saratoga and Carlisle Afterschool and Summer Programs, would like to thank Donna Lupardo for a NYS Grant that has provided new computers, workstations and printers for all the children who attend our programs. This new technology in our youth centers is the key for our children’s educational success. Thank you, Assemblywoman Lupardo.”
