Endicott, NY – For the fourth year in a row, a local student has been awarded a scholarship from the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators. Assemblywoman Lupardo presented graduating Union-Endicott senior Sheridan Ballard with a $3,000 Scholarship Academic Achievement. Lupardo visited Union-Endicott High School to present the check and was joined by Superintendent Nicole Wolfe and Principal Steven DiStefano.

The award is one of four scholarships the conference awards annually. The scholarship application is made available to any graduating student living in a Conference member’s legislative district. Four students are selected each year for scholarships, two academic and two athletic.

Ballard will be attending Boston College this fall with the goal of entering public service by becoming a government statistician. Sheridan is ranked in the top 3% of her class, has taken over a half dozen AP and college courses, and is very active in and out of school, participating in the Italian Club, Girl Scouts, Irish Dance, Key Club, YES! Safe Choices, the U-E Orchestra among other clubs and activities.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, former Chair of the Conference of Italian-American Legislators, said, “We are very proud to award Sheridan Ballard this scholarship for her academic achievement. She is a well-rounded student who cares deeply for her community; this was apparent in the essay she wrote for the scholarship.
