Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Endwell), Chair of the Subcommittee on Women Veterans, is inviting women veterans from across New York State to join her for lunch and a ceremony in Albany on Monday, June 8, 2009.

There will be a luncheon for women veterans from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on the third floor terrace of the Legislative Office Building. At the session scheduled for 2:00 p.m., the Assembly will honor women veterans and adopt a legislative resolution declaring “Women Veterans’ Recognition Day” in New York State. Special seating in the Assembly Chamber will be available for women veterans as well.

Women Veterans’ Recognition Day is celebrated annually on June 12, the anniversary of President Harry S. Truman signing the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948. That law permitted women to serve as full members of the U.S. armed forces.
