Lupardo Presents Local Student with Scholarship from Conference of Italian-American State Legislators

Endicott, NY – Assemblywoman Lupardo presented graduating Union-Endicott senior Nicholas DiMaria with the $4,000 Senator John J. Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship, provided through the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators. The scholarship application is made available to any graduating student living in a Conference member’s legislative district. Four students are selected each year for scholarships, two academic and two athletic. This is the third year in a row that a U-E student has won a scholarship from the group.

Lupardo dropped off the check at his home over the weekend. The Conference hosted a virtual awards ceremony last night in Albany where DiMaria was officially recognized.Ordinarily the scholarships are presented as part of the Conference’s annual activities, including the widely attended Festa event which was cancelled for the second year in a row.

DiMaria will be attending St. John Fisher College this fall with the goal of becoming a Pharmacist. He served as the captain of his school's varsity lacrosse team, which received honors for its sportsmanship. He previously served as the defensive captain of the junior varsity team. Nick has also been an active member of the UEHS Italian Club, Amnesty International, Veterans Club, and St. Anthony’s basketball team and youth group and more.

“We were impressed with Nick’s work ethic, athletic achievements, and service to the community. I have also seen Nick in action during the UE Mock Senate activities he participated in and serving fish dinners at St. Anthony’s. I’m very glad the rest of my colleagues in the Conference agreed,” said Lupardo, a previous chair of the New York Conference of Italian-American Legislators.
