Blumencranz: Keep Local Kids Safe and Stop For School Buses
Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) spoke yesterday at an Operation Safe Stop event hosted by the Jericho School District. He was joined by Jericho’s Director of Transportation Lori-Ann Savino, Superintendent of Schools Hank Grishman, Jericho Board President Jill Citron, Nassau County Legislator Josh Lafazan, Middle School Students Rayan Hasan and Crystal Zhou, Executive Director of of NYAPT Dave Christopher, Executive Vice President for BusPatrol Steve Randazzo as well as Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
These events are meant to bring the community government, local schools and law enforcement together to take the initiative in addressing concerns over student safety when being transported to and from school, and to discuss constructive solutions for enforcing all motorists to stop for parked buses dropping off students.
“Brainstorming safety measures for school buses and enforcing penalties for those who do not stop for them on the road are essential in protecting young students,” said Blumencranz. “Parents who utilize school bus transportation for their kids should not have to worry about their child potentially getting in an accident because a motorist failed to stop. Bus safety technology should be improved so drivers do not have to worry over dangerous incidents involving stop-arm runners occurring, and so that any motorists who do ignore a stop-arm are caught on camera so they can be held accountable. I look forward to working with the Jericho School District and other LI districts to make our roadways safer for students—our children are our future.”
