Brabenec Denounces Hochul High-Rise Plan

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) joined with fellow Assembly Minority colleagues to denounce Gov. Kathy Hochul’s high-rise plan, which promises to force urban building in traditional and established suburban communities, even if it is against the wishes of local zoning authorities. Brabenec calls the plan an ”misuse of governmental power.”

“Suburban communities are what they are because of what they offer: a quiet, less crowded neighborhood away from big urban centers. To start filling those neighborhoods with more housing is a misuse of governmental power to the highest degree,” Brabenec said.

“The governor wants to force, through state mandates, an influx of housing in our communities. This proposal will inevitably raise taxes and severely burden the homeowners and small businesses that are already there. I think the governor needs to seriously reconsider her thoughts on the matter, because this proposal violates our state constitution and, most importantly, will cause a negative impact on our quality of life.” Brabenec concluded.
