Brabenec Reacts To Veto Of Anti-Annexation Bill

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) today released the following statement on the news that Gov. Cuomo vetoed his legislation halting the Kiryas Joel annexation:

“I’m profoundly disappointed that Gov. Cuomo vetoed both of the Kiryas Joel Annexation Oversight Bills. These bi-partisan bills passed both the Assembly and Senate overwhelmingly and would have provided much-needed and much-desired oversight to the annexation process.

“Instead of heeding the thousands of Orange County residents who called, e-mailed or wrote in support of these important measures, Gov. Cuomo instead chose to maintain the unconscionable status quo.

“I will continue to work in a bi-partisan manner to ensure the concerns regarding the annexation are heard. The governor’s action must not silence us, and I plan to continue fighting for what’s right for all our residents, not just for vested interests.”
