Assemblywoman Nily Rozic Announces Funding for New Security System for Local School

Rozic allocated $250,000 in state capital funding to update outdated security cameras at P.S.120 in Flushing

Rozic: This new system will keep our students, teachers, and staff safe

Queens, NY Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) visited P.S.120 to announce she had allocated $250,000 to update the school’s security system. The school will use the funding to install more than 40 cameras throughout the building and upgrade the system with high-definition footage and advanced identification features. Faculty and staff previously struggled to identify faces or individuals in recordings and live feeds from the current cameras, which poses a risk to the school and its students. The school plans to begin installing the new system before the end of the year.

“As a parent, there is no greater priority than making sure our kids are secure and protected in their school buildings when we drop them off in the morning,” said Assemblywoman Rozic. “It’s imperative to have enhanced and properly functioning security systems to keep our students, teachers, and staff safe and that is why I am proud to allocate state funding to restore P.S.120’s outdated system.”

“State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic has been an unwavering advocate for P.S. 120, providing steadfast support throughout my ten years as Principal. From securing $250,000 to upgrade our outdated security camera system to delivering hundreds of laptops at the onset of the pandemic, Assemblywoman Rozic has consistently answered the call when our students and staff needed it most. Her efforts have extended beyond resources—whether assisting with our Open Streets application during a major construction project or inspiring our students with talks on civic leadership, she has become a true friend to the PS 120 Dragon Community,“ said P.S.120 Principal Robert Marino.

“District 25 is thrilled that P.S. 120 will be receiving a generous allocation of $250,000 for a new security system, made possible by Assemblymember Nily Rozic. This funding will enhance the safety and well-being of our students and staff, ensuring that our learning environment remains secure and nurturing, said District 25 Superintendent Dr. Michael Dantona. “We are grateful for Assemblymember Rozic's commitment to our community and her dedication to the safety of our schools.”

"This investment for additional security cameras is a welcomed addition to our public safety apparatus. The NYPD and the 109th Precinct greatly appreciate our partnerships with Assemblymember Rozic,” said Inspector Kevin J. Coleman, Commanding Officer, 109th Precinct.

P.S.120 is located on 58th Avenue and 136th Street in Flushing and offers classes from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5. Additional community investments recently announced by Rozic include a $15,000 adult education programming grant for Young Israel of Hillcrest, a $10,000 female leadership programming grant for Women for Afghan Women in Fresh Meadows, and a $50,000 community program grant to Asian Americans for Equality in Flushing.
