Jamaica, NY – Queens Centers for Progress (QCP) announces that it has been awarded a $550,000 grant, made possible through the dedicated efforts of Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. This substantial funding, secured through the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), will support critical infrastructure enhancements at QCP’s 164^th Street Adult Center.

The planned upgrades will address several key issues, including the installation of a new, environmentally compliant roof, the replacement of ten original rooftop air conditioning units, and comprehensive waterproofing and brickwork restoration to prevent further structural damage. In addition, the building’s original fire alarm system will be updated to meet current safety standards, ensuring a safer environment for everyone who rely on the Adult Center.

“This facility has been a beacon of support for people with developmental disabilities for decades,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “Maintaining and upgrading QCP’s infrastructure is crucial to preserving this institution, and I’m proud to have secured state funding to make these much-needed renovations and improvements to this incredible organization.”

These essential improvements were made possible thanks to the dedicated advocacy of Assemblywoman Rozic. Her efforts covered the costs of waterproofing, upgrading the building’s membrane and flashing, as well as the extensive refurbishment of the supporting steel posts and beams. With the restoration work completed in late August, the facility meets modern safety and environmental standards, safeguarding its future for years to come.

“These much-needed improvements will not only enhance the safety and functionality of our Adult Center but also ensure that we can continue providing vital services in a secure and welcoming environment,” said Terri Ross, Executive Director of QCP. “We are grateful for Assemblywoman Rozic’s unwavering commitment to our organization, and with this funding, we can confidently move forward knowing that our facilities will continue to meet the needs of our community.”

To mark this exciting milestone, QCP will hold a Building Restoration and Rededication Ceremony and press conference with Assemblywoman Rozic on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., in front of QCP’s Adult Center (81-15 164^th Street). Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Families, staff, and community members are invited to attend, providing an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming enhancements and celebrate the ongoing efforts to supporting people with disabilities in Queens.
